About Compass Cay

Compass Cay and Compass Cay Marina lie just south of the boundaries of the Exuma Land and Sea Park. This private island is owned and operated by Tucker Rolle, a local native of Bahamas. It offers a quiet, and laid back resting place for many boaters traveling through the area, as well as provides an opportunity to explore remote, deserted beaches and hike beautiful trails on the island.

Aside from incredible beauty, Compass Cay is most notably recognized for the unique "friendly" nurse sharks that reside below the docks of the marina. As you motor your boat into the marina, you will be greeted by a number of nurse sharks, and perhaps a ray or two, who will escort you in, hoping to be fed a scrap or two. Tucker feeds the sharks daily, and all are welcome to snorkel below the docks with docile creatures. In addition to the nurse sharks, you will see hundreds of bonefish, jacks, remora, French Angelfish, Yellow Tail Snapper, coral heads, and rays. You could spend the entire day snorkeling at the marina and never be bored for a minute! Please note that there is a very small docking fee for visitors.

After you tire of snorkeling, ask Tucker if it is OK to hike over the trails to reach the other side of the island for a quick swim and walk on Crescent Beach. Here you will find complete solitude under the comfort of shade from the Gazebo. The ocean hues of blues are endless, and you will be hypnotized dreaming about island life. There are a few houses for rent on the island, so please be respectful of the guests privacy.

The white sandy beach seems to be endless, in a perfect crescent beach. Whether the ocean is calm, gentle waves are breaking, or if there are white caps as far as the eye can see-you will feel all the stress wash away in the waves. Enjoy-but leave only your footprints!

At the far northern tip of the island, there is a small inlet leading to Rachel's Bubble Bath. This is named because there is a small opening below the cliffs that allows the ocean side seawater to crash in, and bubble through the shallow tidal pool. It is a nice little hike from the inlet and certainly well worth the trip, as the views are magnificent. Here you will see across the Conch cut to the start of the remote Exuma Land and Sea Park.

Be sure you make this a stop on your cruise or if you are visiting any islands in the area as it is an experience you will never forget! For more information, visit www.compasscay.com
